LIFE'S TREASURES

When I pass on as all men must,
And my gear is rusting and gathering dust,
Among the things I'll miss are these,
The glint of sunlight through the tall fir trees.

A tough climb to a high hidden lake,
The occasional breather a man must take,
The smell of goldens frying in a pan,
The nectar that is coffee from an old tin can.

Talks by the fire when day is through,
Of things you've done and things yet to do
And confidences given man to man,
With the star lit heavens so close at hand.

A day in the valley by a meadow stream,
Where the two foot rainbows fulfil a dream
And a thirst you've had for a year is slaked
As your fourteen-dry they rise to, and take.

A crashing shot at a deer in the brush
Swing your tubes on an incoming duck
Dropping a gorgeous plumage chink
For these to me are as meat and drink.

The flights of the Luscome '85'
Over Idaho's rugged mountain side
Over McCaleb and Borah and the mighty Snake
Looking down at the rips, and rocks, and the Salmon make.

As I said, I'll miss this, but then
I'll have little fear of things I do not ken.
Now am I concerned about life's accounting
For I've had so much of the good Lord's bountyl

Mike Cerchione

Mike Cerchone was best known as a master fly fisherman. In the late 1940's he headed west and selected the Big Lost River Valley in Idaho as his new home based on the great fishing and the beautiful countryside. He introduced fly fishing on the Big Lost River and Warm Springs Creek.

A poor copy of Naturalization papers from 1914 for Mike and his sister Julia when they were resident of Boonton NJ. He was married to Vera WILSON on Aug 25 1923. Vera and Mike met while working togather at a plant in Boonton, NJ which eventually became Drew Chemical Co..
